Back and the Future!

Flux capacitors to the ready, the Friday Knights, St. John’s church men’s group, returns in September.

For decades the Knights has provided friendship, fraternity and support to the blokes of the parish and we are always looking for new members and guests.

We have the following following events planned for this Autumn, meeting at 8pm in the Tamberlin room, when at ‘Home’.

  • Friday 17th September, (change of date) – Call my Blush, wine tasting with Bernard, this will be as popular as ever and a good way to start our year.
  • Friday 8th October, – Big Lebowski night, Ten-Pin Bowling at Bromley Pavillion
  • Friday 12th November, – A talk on the history of Croydon, by the local Natural History Society
  • Friday 10th December, – The Annual Friday Knights Dinner at Shirley Park Golf Club

We look forward to turning back the clock, welcoming you soon and reigniting the camaraderie that the Friday Knights is famed for.

Parish Support Fund – Together we can

What is the Parish Support Fund (PSF)?

The PSF resources the cost of clergy and support to each parish in the Diocese of Southwark. https://southwark.anglican.org/giving/parish-support-fund/ has full details including good news stories funded by the PSF.

Where do the resources come from?

Each year parishes in the Diocese of Southwark are invited to make a pledge to the PSF.

What does this mean for St John’s?

This September our PCC will be deciding how much money we can pledge to the PSF which is realistic, challenging and generous.

How much did St John’s pledge last year?

Our pledge to the PSF was £60,000 (£5000 per month). The Diocese of Southwark suggested amount was £80,000. An underpayment of £20,000.

Why did St John’s underpay?

We had significant expenditure due to the Spire repairs and other essential restoration to the stonework of our Church.

How much is our suggested amount this year?

£81,900 (£6825 per month)

How do we ensure that we pay our expected amount to the PSF this year?

Whether you come to St John’s in person, via our streamed services, or visit loved ones in our churchyard, please share in the cost of our ministry and mission. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us just how much we rely on our Church family and our own Rev Lu Gale. Please help us to continue our Ministry at St John’s by committing to a regular financial contribution.

Croydon’s Great Big Green Week

We can’t believe that Croydon’s Great Big Green Week is just one month away!

We’ve been working hard to organise some really fantastic events in the calendar, including talks, a clothes exchange, guided walks, a photography competition and of course – Croydon’s Great Big Green Festival on the 26th September in the high street.

To make the week a success, we need as many people as possible attending the events and the festival. We need your help to spread the word! If you can, please tell your family, friends and networks about the week & share our posts on social media. Attached are two posters that you can print off and place in public spaces near you.
